PHOENIX, Arizona—This March 28, spring has arrived in Phoenix, and theater-goers had a balmy and lovely night to watch the beauty of the Shen Yun Performing Arts 2009 World Tour performance at ASU Gammage Theatre on opening night.
Karen and her sister Gayle were in the audience tonight and the pair could not refrain from repeatedly mentioning the show's beauty. Karen is a writer, currently working short stories to make into a novel. Gayle works in a doctor's office in billing.
Karen enjoyed the show and said, "So far fabulous, beyond what I expected. It's very entertaining, very diverse! I love it! The costumes are phenomenal, they are really attractive to the eye. I can't take me eyes off them. The music is wonderful too."
The show has artful computer generated backdrops that invite the audience to take part more deeply in the the stories the performers are weaving. It provides a lovely, one of a kind experience for the audience.
Karen is thrilled by the backdrops: "Oh, that's a great part of the show. I like how they descend in the background and then the backdrop brings them right through to the audience. That's a really clever idea!"
Karen thinks the show has a beautiful message. She feels it's "a great experience: Oh, it’s a beautiful message, and even if I don’t understand everything, I still am feeling that it’s a great experience. It’s beautiful."
Gayle joined her sister in expressing her enjoyment of the show: "I think the costumes are just phenomenal; I love them. The movement—I’m watching their feet—I’ve never seen such delicate movements, with their feet and their hands, and just the flow of the entire show. It’s just absolutely—it just touches my heart. It’s gorgeous, just gorgeous ."
Gayle continued, "The story is just absolutely beautiful. It’s just timeless. It’s a very, very beautiful story."
Karen experienced something else beautiful, "It’s very moving. I keep hearing my heart just opening up and I feel like I’m going to cry sometimes. It’s very beautiful."
The sisters found out about the show through seeing flyers. They just kept noticing these flyers
on campus and Karen saw a booth selling tickets. "I really wanted to go, so I called my sister and asked her if she would go with me."
Neither sister had seen the Shen Yun show before. When asked if they would recommend it to their
friends, Gayle stated, "Absolutely, it's just beautiful. It just absolutely moves your heart!"
